52 Week Challenge –Week 8–Revolutionary War–Andrew Emminger (1755-1839)

The theme for week number eight, which was 13 weeks ago, was Good Deeds. I could not find anyone who fit into the Good Deeds theme and at the time was not sure who to write about. I thought since this is the weekend where we celebrate our freedom I would come back to this theme and write about one of my ancestors who fought in the Revolutionary War. I am writing about my fifth great grandfather, Andrew Emminger.

Andrew was born near Waynesboro, Pa on January 20, 1755 to Johann Elias Emminger and Susanna ?. Andrew was one of four children. Elias and susanna had two daughters and then two sons. Andrew met and married Catherine Kitch. They had eight children, six boys and two girls.

Andrew was a Private in John Lamb’s 3rd Company, 4th Battalion, Cumberland County Militia 1777. He was also an Ensign in the 3rd Company, 4th Battalion, Militia 1792 (Old Records of Emminger Family).

Andrew and his brother Conrad were trustees that incorporated the Trindle-spring German Reformed Calvinist and German Lutheran congregations of Cumber  County (http://files.usgwarchives.net/pa/1pa/xmisc/1827laws.txt).
